Witch Finger Cookies

I’m obsessed with finding ways to make creepy Halloween treats that are easy to make and affordable, and these witch finger cookies do not disappoint. They taste great, look realistic, and would be a perfect dessert to bring to a Halloween party. They’re also super versatile as you can play around with making the fingers long and boney or use a bit of green food coloring to make monster fingers. I chose to aim for a realistic finger with a witchy vibe and I think they came out pretty great. One note before getting in to the how-to: I used store bought sugar cookie dough and added about a cup of extra flour so that the cookies wouldn’t spread as I wanted them to keep their nice round shape.

You will need: one portion sugar cookie dough, cocoa powder, sharp knife, sliced almonds, food-safe brush

STEP 1 - Preheat the oven to the specified temperature of your sugar cookie recipe. (I set mine to 350) Taking small pieces of dough, roll between your palms to create finger shapes and place on a baking sheet

STEP 2- Begin to add the detail. Using your sharp knife, carefully score lines to resemble knuckles and place a sliced almond at the top of each finger and gently press down to create a nail bed. *Sharp and jagged almonds make great witchy fingernails.

STEP 3- Chill the fingers in the freezer for five minutes. They don’t need long as they are small and will bake quickly. Chilling helps to maintain their round shape during baking.

STEP 4- Bake. As I don’t specify a particular cookie recipe, your baking time may vary. But due to how small these cookies are, it won’t be long. I recommend starting with 5 minutes and then adding a minute and re-checking until they seem done. In total, mine baked about 7 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheet.

STEP 5 - Once cool, add some cocoa powder to create realism and bring out the details. Using my brush, I added cocoa powder to the knuckles and the nail to bring out the lines, and then a little bit all over the cookie to darken the color and give the appearance of skin.

VOILA! Witch finger sugar cookies. I hope you try out this recipe and leave a comment to let me know how it went.
